She's worked at numerous top media organizations across the globe. She worked for The Washington Post nearly a decade and covered Grand Slam Tennis and Grand Slam Football, as being a basketball reporter at numerous Olympics. Nichols was a reporter for nine years with ESPN which was where she earned two Emmy Awards. Also, she was an anchor for Monday Night Football on the network. Next, she moved on into CNN sports and then Turner. The first program she developed and hosted was her own show, Unguarded together with Rachel Nichols, and aired every week on CNN as well as CNN International. Over 1 billion viewers were watching it around the world. Nichols was a reporter for NBA broadcasts on TNT as well as the regular season, playoffs and all-star broadcasts. She also reported for TBS reporting on golf and baseball broadcasts as well as Final Four broadcasts on CBS. This is the first occasion in the award's 42 year history that a woman was nominated amongst the more than 200 nominees.
